So, with the help of some "submarine" (that's a greek candy-like spoon sweet, dipped in a glass of ice-cold water) to keep me fresh, I am writing and writing, posting pictures, correcting sometimes...

Today I went to the Archaeological Museum of my hometown Piraeus (that's the harbor of Athens), because I was really curious how the neighbourhood my grandmother was from ("Apollo Piraeus"), got its name...

In the Museum I found the answer. Look above, that's the legendary "Apollo from Piraeus", dating back to the 4th century BC. Looks like Apollo was very popular in our region :). But the museum had a lot more to offer. I was impressed by the many interesting sculptures, especially the bronze ones, and how well they are preserved.

Here is a link to the official website of the museum.

And since this summer we are reviving the ..."bronze age" here in Piraeus (everyone is bronze-tanned...so much sun!), I thought I'd update some gods' pages with bronze statues . Here they are: Apollo, Artemis, and Athena. Lets call it "Greek-Gods.info Summer Edition" :D. I hope you like them!

Greek Mythology Puzzle

Hello ,

now that we had Easter holidays in Greece I finally found the time to add some interactivity to the site and made a flash puzzle related to the Olympian gods.

Here is the link. So I decided to make use of my german language skills and add a german version of the website.

For all german speaking- or german learning- people, here is the link of the german version:
www.greek-gods.info/deutsch/

I hope you will enjoy your reading and please keep me informed should you see any mistakes, since it 's been years I haven't practized my german. Thanks a lot!

PS Until now, I have managed to only translate part of the whole website, but I am adding content to the german version every day. Please be patient and stay tuned. It's actually a very broad topic that requires a whole lot of research, from a wide range of sources.

To keep it short, I think it will still take a while to finish this section. Hopefully it will be around November.

Meanwhile, I keep updating my website with various myths about the Greek deities, a task that is less time-consuming, since most myths I know of since my childhood. Therefore I am trying to add at least one picture next to every deity I feature on my website. If I have more photos of the god available, I just link from the god's page to the god's photo gallery.

Some pictures are taken from Wikimedia Commons (by the way, a great resource for greek mythology), others are taken by myself during my visit at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Feel free to copy any picture you like!

Yesterday I started adding further details about the gods' pictures, like who or what is depicted in the picture, approximately when the piece of art was created, where it can be found now and so on. You can read those details at the bottom of each picture.

And, of course, if you know something more or better than me, just leave a comment on this post.
