Greek mythology in everyday life - Small delay in update

About two weeks ago I started collecting information concerning the use of mythology in everyday life, just to realize that it is actually much more difficult task than I expected. It's actually a very broad topic that requires a whole lot of research, from a wide range of sources. To keep it short, I think it will still take a while to finish this section. Hopefully it will be around November. Meanwhile, I keep updating my website with various myths about the Greek deities, a task that is less time-consuming, since most myths I know of since my childhood. Every day I am adding at least one new myth, focusing on the Olympian gods. So stay tuned. Thanks for your understanding :)

Greek mythology in everyday life

The more I delve into greek mythology, the more amazed I get by how much some aspects of greek mythology still apply nowadays- both in Greece and worldwide. So I am going to start a new section next week, when I will hopefully have finished my research on the greek deities' symbols. In this section, I will focus on modern customs and sayings of everyday life that have their roots in greek mythology. I am then planning to expand this section with a list of famous people/celebrities that are named after greek gods, along with a brief description and links to official resources of them. Feel free to comment on this thoughts of mine, your opinion is precious and more than welcome!

Greek Gods' genealogy

In the long run, the texts I am composing for the greek deities start getting bigger and bigger and I feel that they slowly become hard to read through. This applies especially to screen reading, where studying is more tiresome and you need to find information more instantly. Today I made the first step and, for each olympian god's info, I separated his/her genealogy into a paragraph itself. When I have finished, the next thing I am going to do will be creating a separate paragraph for each god's symbols as well. I hope this helps you too. Happy reading!

Chatroom

There are so many ideas I have for this website... One the one hand, I want to add more, much more content- mythology is such a broad topic that I guess http://www.greek-gods.info/ will never be 100% complete... On the other hand, I hate having a "one-way" website- I want some interactivity in it. So yesterday I decided to leave the content part for a while and to add a chatroom to it. ( http://www.greek-gods.info/chat ) Now that I think it over, I don't know whether a chatroom is really suitable for this website, but let's give it a try and time will tell.

Pictures of Greek Gods

One picture is worth a thousand words... I agree, and I think pictures are also more fun. Therefore I am trying to add at least one picture next to every deity I feature on my website. If I have more photos of the god available, I just link from the god's page to the god's photo gallery. Some pictures are taken from Wikimedia Commons (by the way, a great resource for greek mythology), others are taken by myself during my visit at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Feel free to copy any picture you like! Yesterday I started adding further details about the gods' pictures, like who or what is depicted in the picture, approximately when the piece of art was created, where it can be found now and so on. You can read those details at the bottom of each picture. And, of course, if you know something more or better than me, just leave a comment on this post. Thanks :)

Mount Olympus

Image
I have just enriched the section about the archaeological sites of Ancient Greece in http://www.greek-gods.info . Now you can find also some information about Mount Olympus, the Home of the Greek Gods, here: http://www.greek-gods.info/ancient-greece/mount-olympus/ Remember, the whole website still a work in progress and there is still as much information as I would like to...anyway, concerning mount Olympus, I am planning to visit Thessaly these days and I promiss I will take lots of pictures of our highest mountain. So, stay tuned!
